Gwendolyn Briley-Strand holds a BA in Theatre from Fordham University and has performed as a professional actor on stage, television and in film for over twenty years. Her television credits include work with HBO Productions, MGM pictures, NBC Television, and PBS-TV. Her video Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One won the ITVA-DC 2003 Peer Award at the National Press Radio Club in Washington, D.C. for independent feature. Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One has been performed for hundreds of schools and organizations throughout the United States and Canada as well as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and The Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington DC. In 2004, Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One opened the Underground Railroad Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Technical Requirements

Please allow 50-60 minutes for set-up; provide a clean, cleared performance area of approximately 16'x16; and one wireless, lavaliere microphone connected to existing sound system. Note: Video taping of Ms. Briley-Strand's performance is NOT permitted.

Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One
A dynamic, one-woman play celebrates the life of the courageous Harriet Tubman. In this re-enactment, in full costume, the artist uses theatre to take students on one of her many journeys through the Underground Railroad. (4-12)

The Harriet Tubman in Me
A student workshop based on the "Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One" play. This Workshop is designed for a small group of fifteen students that are interested in acting. Note: Workshops may only be presented in conjunction with a Performance. (4-12)
