Artist Spotlight: TruArt Dance Company

The TruArt Dance Company is a component of The Cypher, a year round after school and summer program for at risk youth and young adults. Lead by dance teaching artist, founder and choreographer Jayme Bermudez, this ensemble of self-taught, hip hop genre teen dancers have transformed through classical training and development of an esprit de corps to become proficient and creative performers and positive contributors to society. TRU stands for THE REAL U! Mr. Bermudez's combined dance and human services background make him well suited to work with the youth who have experienced systemic barriers hindering their personal growth, academic and employment potential. For more than one year the youth dancers of TruArt Dance Company have provide performances and participatory dance workshops for educational sites in our service area. They have performed for Middle School students in Newark and taught workshops to the same students; performed for Middle School students in day programs (BOCES), York, Pittsford, East Irondequoit, and Fairport. They are true entrepreneurs!
